It's Time For Positive Change...
The Earl Warren Showgrounds Foundation intends to develop and implement a complete facilities renovation over time. The first phase will address the immediate need to provide space for booking prestigious horse shows and other events. The cost of $1.25 million includes two 125' x 250' regulation size riding arenas (one will be the completely rebuilt El Camino Ring), complete with year-round drainage, top quality footing, fencing, bleacher seating, lights and sound systems, judge's/announcer's booths, gate booths and a large warm-up arena to support both rings. The in-line skating rink will be removed and relocated, providing necessary space for the project. Any temporary stall structures will be erected as needed for larger shows on the existing parking lot serving the Dome Arena.
The Immediate Goal: $1,200,000 BY DECEMBER 31, 2007. TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE! If a substantial portion of the funds are raised quickly, the Board's plan is to begin a complete renovation of the old El Camino Ring immediately following the conclusion of the National Amateur Horse Show (The “Turkey Show”) which takes place every year during Thanksgiving Week. The work will be completed in time for the beginning of the 2008 Horse Show season in April, and will not impede other uses of the facility during the construction period.
Donor Recognition and Giving Opportunities: A list of naming opportunities for major donors - both individuals and businesses - will recognize Leadership Gifts for the restoration of Earl Warren. A Recognition Wall will be created in the central area of the Showgrounds to recognize ALL donors who give $1,000 or more to this community effort. All gifts will be made to the Earl Warren Showgrounds Foundation, a California 501(c)(3) corporation, and are fully tax-deductible.
19th District President Ed Sands, speaking on behalf of the entire Earl Warren Showgrounds Board, expressed a strong commitment to doing whatever is necessary to re-establish the Earl Warren Showgrounds status as the premier horse show and exhibit facility in California:
“Our Showgrounds is an irreplaceable treasure. Its cultural and economic impacts are huge, and far exceed the purely monetary benefits. Earl Warren represents the essence of Santa Barbara's equestrian and agricultural history and traditions. Its Board is committed to preserving this valuable asset, to restoring it as a premier equestrian showgrounds, and to creating an unparalleled center for the many exhibits, cultural and social events that are so important to our community.”
